Mark David
Buckery
May 4, 1959 – September 21, 2022
Mark D. Buckery, 63 of Wilmington passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Mark was born in Hazelton, PA the son of the late Joseph Buckery and Margaret (Kendra). He received an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University and a Bachelor's Degree from Widener University. Mark worked as an electrical engineer for many years. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Church in Wilmington DE and S.S. Cyril and Methodious in Hazleton PA.
Mark will be dearly missed by his wife and High School sweet heart of 35 years, Renay (DeBias) Buckery; his children, Matthew L., Angela and Allison Buckery, all of Wilmington and his brother, Ken Buckery of Wilmington, NC.
Mark was a loving and dedicated husband of 35 years, father, brother, coach, and friend. His whole life was dedicated to serving others with his aspiration being to fulfill Mark 12:30-31, "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength."
Mark was an extremely diligent hard worker. After working as an electrical engineer for many years, the career opportunity that everyone strives for was imminent; however, an unexpected surprise arose – at age 37 his first of three children were born. He was now presented with a tough decision that altered the course of his life forever. He willingly chose his family; he quit his job. This allowed him to spend more quality time with his wife and children, to take his children to the bus stops, welcome them with an "I love you" and a smile, to go to every baseball practice, game, and tournament, to share his seemingly infinite wisdom on any and every topic, and to faithfully pray and read the Bible every night. He devoted the entirety of his life to instill holiness, faithfulness, excellence, purity, and character within his marriage, household and the rest of the world.
It brought him much joy to share his life with the wonderful neighbors. Whenever he said "I'll be back soon," we knew where we could find him— outside in deep conversation with neighbors. He also enjoyed volunteering at the local Little League and coached at every level from tee ball to semi-pro. When he wasn't coaching, he was in the stands laughing with all his baseball buddies.
Additionally, he was the epitome of the Bible's "Good Samaritan." Mark would not only help the homeless financially, he would also address their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. He gave them food and drinks, listened to their stories, opened his heart to them, and gave them hope and strength through his prayers and sincerity. He would even buy them hotel rooms to get them off the street so they could take a shower, receive a hot meal, and sleep in a warm bed. He had a heart of 24K gold!
Growing up without an earthly father from the age of 11, his life's goal was to be the best father that ever lived. Mission accomplished!
If he could tell the world one thing, it would be Matthew 5:44-45, 46, 48 "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have…Therefore, be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Perfection is attainable, strive for it!
