Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Berlin) Hassell, age 86, of Newark, DE, formerly of Cohoes, NY passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024.

Born on December 6, 1937 in Cohoes , NY, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Berlin and Yvonne Rose Gallerie Berlin. Marjorie was a proud navy wife and mother, traveling with her husband, Jerry, and their children to many cities throughout his time in the military. She volunteered for various military organizations and served as the Navy Wives Vice President while on many submarine bases. Marjorie also spent time volunteering at Christiana Hospital as a member of the Junior Board, and dedicated time to her parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, in various capacities. She volunteered for the Emmanuel Dining Room and the Joseph's House making sandwiches in her spare time. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her close group of friends who would often cook dinner or go out to eat together. She will be dearly missed by those closest to her.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie is predeceased by her brother, Sgt Thomas Berlin and her sister, Helen Berlin. Marjorie is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Thomas J. Hassell; her children and their spouses, Sharon M. and James Grathwohl, Thomas J. and Kelly Hassell, and Karen E. Hassell; her grandchildren, Arden Hassell, Caroline (Drew) Barrett, John Hassell, Timothy Grathwohl, Emily Grathwohl, and Lauren Grathwohl; and a host of cousins, dear friends and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Monday February 26th from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE 19707. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 A.M. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Marjorie's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or the Emmanuel Dining Room, 121 N. Jackson Street Wilmington, DE 19805.
