Marilyn Bennett Reese, age 91, of Dresher, Pennsylvania (formally of Hockessin, Delaware for over 40 years), passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2020, after a short illness. Born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania on May 27, 1929, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth (Phillis) and Ralph Chester Bennett, Sr. Marilyn was a graduate of New Brighton High School ('47) and the State Teachers College of Indiana ('51) in Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. While in college, she was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon, the YWCA, and the Methodist Club. This is also where Marilyn met the love of her life, her husband Chuck, and they later settled in Delaware. Marilyn worked as a dietician at the Hotel DuPont from 1951-1953. From 1953-1955 she taught Home Economics at Wilmington High School. She was then a stay at home mom raising her three children until the late 1960's when she worked as a door to door salesperson for the Fuller Brush Company while her children were in school. From 1973 until her retirement in 1985, Marilyn worked as a bank teller for Mellon Bank (now Citizens Bank). Marilyn enjoyed sewing, cooking, and a good cup of hot tea. She also enjoyed playing cards (especially Bridge) and listening to music. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching the news, and watching "The Golden Girls" and "The Big Bang Theory." She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Marilyn was a longtime member of the Limestone Presbyterian Church. She had a great smile, a good sense of humor, and she enjoyed laughing. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Charles "Chuck" Reese in July 2016, her son Charles Dana Reese in July 2020, and her brother Ralph Chester Bennett, Jr. in July 2018. Marilyn will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sheryl "Sherry" Ann DiCarlo (Tony) of Pennsauken, NJ, and Karen Lynn Reese (Susan Phillippe) of North Wales, PA, and five grandchildren, Jason and Shanna DiCarlo, and Christopher, Adam, and Salena Reese. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE, with funeral services beginning at 12:15 PM. A service of remembrance will also be held for Marilyn's son, "Dana," during this time. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
