Marie Frances Sullivan, age 89, of Wilmington, formerly of Millsboro, passed away peacefully on Monday March 2nd, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born in Wilmington, Marie was the daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Connor) McCool and was a graduate of PS DuPont High School. She was a proud member of the 1949 Delaware Field Hockey team that played against England. For 17 years, she worked as a teacher's aide in the Christina School District until her retirement. She was a founding member of Holy Family Church and a former member of Mary Mother of Peace Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Maureen Gillette. Marie will be dearly missed by her husband of 69 years, Thomas J. Sullivan, Jr.; her children, Kathleen Brady (Bill) of Newark, DE, Thomas J, III (Jane) of Bear, DE, Colleen Nycz of Raleigh, NC and Charleen White (Raymond) of Jersey Shore, PA; ten grandchildren, Paul, Chuck, Jacqueline, Jason, Jessica, J. Thomas, T.J. IV, Samantha, Kevin and Steven; and six great grandchildren, Kristopher, Anna, Sara, Charlie, Connor and Kate. Also surviving are her sister, Charlotte Poppit of Wilmington, DE and her brother, Charles McCool of Cecilton, MD. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Saturday, March 7th after 3 p.m. at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin after 5 p.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 11 a.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
