Obituary

On Monday, July 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and friends, Mariann Hanley Flowers went to her heavenly home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mariann was born in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of Joseph T. Hanley and Delphine Viscount Hanley. She graduated from St. Mark's High School in Wilmington and then graduated from the Wilmington School of Nursing. Mariann began her long career in health care at the Wilmington Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially at the beach. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert C. Flowers Jr. of Wilmington, her loving daughter, Jamee D. Flowers, her sisters, Ann H. Strusowski (John), Barbara Trader (Steve), step mother, Joan B. Hanley, step sister, Linda DeSantis, step brother, Robert DeSantis, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Steven Grubbs of the Helen Graham Center and his staff for his many years of care, the nurses who cared for her on the 6B floor at Christiana Hospital, Dr. Andra Popescu of Kamen Cardiology, and the staff of Delaware Hospice. A Catholic Burial Service will be offered on Saturday, August 2nd at 10 am at St. Margaret of Scotland, 1243 Frazer Rd. Newark, DE 19702. Friends may call Friday evening, August 1st at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME located at 2509 Limestone Road from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delaware Hospice 16 Polly Drummond Center 2nd Fl., Newark, DE 19711 or Delaware Humane Society 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
