Margaret "Peggy" C.
Fortinper
August 18, 1932 – December 23, 2024
Margaret "Peggy" C. Fortinper, age 92, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Peggy was born into a large Irish Catholic family in Hazelton, PA, daughter of the late Rose (Richmond) and William Fanning. Peggy attended St. Gabriels high school before moving to Delaware and meeting the love of her life while working at a local diner. After marrying, she worked for the Bell Telephone company while her husband served in the Army. Later, while her children were attending school, she worked for the American Cancer Society raising funds for cancer research. Through all of this, she was a devoted homemaker. She took much joy in raising her family. Hers was the home all the children loved to gather and play. Peggy enjoyed cooking and baking and anytime you would visit her, she would inundate you with whatever dish or dessert she had prepared. She kept busy taking interior design classes and doing all sorts of arts and crafts from flower arrangements to macrame which led to her small hobby side business, The Knotting Corner. In her free time, she also enjoyed socializing and making friends, playing in her weekly Canasta club, water aerobics at the Delaware Swim & Fitness, watching old movies and musicals and listening to (and singing) Patsy Cline. She had a passion for puzzles and in every magazine you would pick up, all the puzzles were already done. At the center of everything was Peggy's faith. She was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in New Castle.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was also predeceased by her step father Stanley Boris Sr; her loving husband, Charles D. Fortinper Sr; son, Dominick Fortinper; and 9 brothers and sisters.
Peggy is survived by her son, Charles D. Fortinper, Sr and his wife Katherine Inge of Midlothian, VA; daughter, Kathleen F Winnington of New Castle, DE; granddaughters, Kimberly Winnington (Blaine Eres), Renee Fortinper (Lauren) and Vicki Nellans; great granddaughters, Olivia, Reagan, and Riley; brother Stanley "Butch" Boris Jr and her nieces and nephews whom she all loved.
A visitation for Peggy will take place on Monday January 6th at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10:30-11:30am, with a funeral service following at 11:30am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Margaret's name to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 12 Winder Rd, New Castle, DE 19720, or The Seeing Eye, P.O Box 375, Morristown, NJ 07963 (seeingeye.org)
