Passed away at Penn Presbyterian Hospital on Monday, May 2, 2016. Peter was the son of the late Frank X. Duggan and Mary Agnes Duggan of the Bronx, NY and the husband and loving partner for 50 years of the late Beverley Ray. Until her passing in 2011, Peter and Beverley raised a family and endured many adventures together. They traveled the world and settled in Delaware in 1984. Peter was an especially loving and supportive husband to Beverley during her final terrible illness. Peter was born on April 1st 1936 and attended All Hallows grammar school and high school in the Bronx and then Fordham University School of Education in Manhattan. The day he graduated from Fordham he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Marine Corps and left for active duty immediately. He served as a Marine officer for 21 years including two tours in Vietnam. His personal awards included Two Bronze Stars (with combat "Vs"), Two Meritorious Service Medals; a Navy Commendation medal; and a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Of all his Marine assignments, he was most proud of having served as the Commander Officer of the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines for 22 months from March 1973 to December 1974. Upon retiring from active duty with the Marine Corps, Peter was employed by the Yonkers, NY, Board of Education from 1979 to 1998 as the instructor for the newly established Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program first at Yonkers High School and subsequently at Lincoln High School. During the 1997 school year, he was chosen as the Teacher of the Year for all the schools in the city of Yonkers. Peter absolutely loved teaching and the time he spent with his students. He happily remained in contact with many of them until his passing. The last years of Peter's life were shared with his daughter Deirdre, her husband, Dewey, and his grandchildren Colin, Kate, and Matthew. They filled his days with love and laughter. He seemed to think of them as his playmates. He met new friends in Oxford, PA and enjoyed spending time with them as well. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 13th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11 AM.
