Lisa G. Fontalbert, age 60, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 9, 2024 after a six-month battle with brain cancer.
Lisa was born in Charleston, WV in 1964. She was the daughter of the late Louise (Conley) and Roy Clayton Fontalbert Jr. She married the love of her life Mark Sprenkle on Valentine's Day 1997 on top of the Empire State Building in New York City.
Lisa graduated from Wilmington College with a bachelor's degree in science. She worked as a chemist in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries at: Hercules Chemicals, Ganes Chemicals, DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals and finally at W.L. Gore up until her passing.
Lisa had many hobbies and passions in her life. One of her main passions was rescuing retired racing greyhounds with her husband Mark. Over the course of twenty-plus years, they rescued and rehabilitated dozens of greyhounds. Lisa was an avid motorcycle rider and a member of First State Lady Diamonds, the Delaware chapter of Women on Wheels. She was also a lifelong competitive volleyball player and a member of the Wilmington Ski Club. Above all, the true loves in her life were her husband Mark, her family and friends and her hounds.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Mark Sprenkle; her sister Michelle Fontalbert; nephew Corey and many beloved friends.
Funeral services for Lisa will be held privately. Donations to Greyhound Pet Adoptions of Delaware (gpadelaware.org) or planting trees are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
