Obituary

Kevin Francis DeHart (64) of Fort Myers, Florida - dedicated father, avid sports fan, prolific reader, excellent listener and advisor, proud patriot, and true friend - will be most remembered for his positivity, generosity, and fighting spirit. He passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023, after a life filled with passion, service, and achievement.

Kevin was born to Barbara and Douglas DeHart Sr. on March 31, 1959 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was an all-star athlete who played 3 sports at Salesianum High School. The United States Military Academy West Point recruited him for football and he also became Captain of the Baseball Team, achieving several baseball records. He graduated West Point with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was also a proud Ranger Parachutist. During his service as a Field Artillery and Mortar Unit Officer stationed in Germany, he learned German fluently, obtained an MS in German and an MBA from Boston University. There he also met and married Andrea, with whom he had two daughters. After his military service, Kevin started his career in engineering and technical sales in Michigan, where he held multiple executive leadership positions. In his later years he owned and managed 2 small businesses in Fort Myers, Florida.

Kevin loved discussing sports, politics, business, and personal development, and soaking up the Florida sun. Both his daughters had him saved on speed dial and will miss their regular candid conversations. He also enjoyed walking at local parks, and a park bench overlooking the water will be dedicated in his honor at his favorite park, Independence Oaks Park in Clarkston, Michigan. He will be truly missed by many, especially around Christmas time - his favorite holiday.

Kevin is survived by his two daughters, Dana and Katrina DeHart, as well as Dana's partner, Jason Bartek, and two grandchildren, Reagan and Brayden (DeHart) Bartek. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara DeHart, and his four siblings, Douglas Jr., Jeff, Jim, and Cheryl DeHart.

Kevin's life will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, May 13, 2023. The 10am viewing will be followed by an 11am mass and a 12pm military honors ceremony. There will also be a memorial service at his favorite church, St. Hugo of the Hills, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he will be laid to rest at the chapel overlooking the pond (date TBD). In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider donating to the Salesianum High School at 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802 in Kevin's name.
