Kathleen Funaiock, age 78, of Newark, DE passed away after a brief illness on June 26th, 2023.

Kathleen was Born June 1, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Daisy and John Schmidt, though she called Delaware home for nearly 40 years, she remained loyal to her Pittsburgh roots, fondly recalling her childhood in the Steel City.  Kathy was a member of the Christiana School District's Food Service Team and was a lead worker at the Brennan School for nearly two decades. She had a deep affection for the students and staff at Brennan, as well as for the friends and colleagues she worked with.

A former Sunday School teacher and Volunteer for Hope Dining Room, Kathy found fulfillment in service to others.   She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law and friend to all who knew her.  She always had a positive outlook, as well as a great sense of humor.  She loved daily walks, puzzles, Pittsburgh Steelers, theatre, lunches with friends and she was always up for a fun day trip adventure.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother John, and husband of 50 years, Bill.  She is survived by her daughter Sara, sister Audrey, brother Bob (Lolly), brothers-in-law Lou and Fred and sisters-in-law Fran and Janet, as well as 17 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to send donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Delaware, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 in her memory.
