The world was made a poorer place on the 2nd of June, when the indomitable spirit of Karen Oswald was silenced after suffering the ravages of dementia. The consummate traveler, Karen imbued in her two children, Loren and Miranda, their lifelong wanderlust as they shared countless adventures at home and abroad. Never the one to fit in any particular mold, Karen's travels on motorcycles and in motorhomes took her to every corner of this country. Her sense of adventure was only matched by her incredibly generous heart. Following the devastating earthquake of 2010 in Haiti, Karen leaped at the chance to help that community get back on its feet and so soon found herself in Port-au-Prince caring for the people of that country. Her individual touch as a care giver was honed over three decades as a social worker in the Wildwood, New Jersey public school system and extended to even volunteering to teach children English with her daughter in Poland. Her last adventure was that of a loving and doting grandmother to Gabriel and Alexa; both of whom grew to be inseparable from her.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Karen is survived by her former husband and lifelong friend, Ronald Oswald as well as her daughter-in-law Beth and son-in-law Brian. Services will be private, but Karen would have wanted donations to go to the organization she volunteered to support, Doctors Without Borders at 40 Rector Street, New York, NY 10006.
