Newark, DE - Karen Kelly, age 62, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital due to complications from COVID-19 on December 13, 2020 with her loving sister by her side. Karen was born on December 22, 1957 in Wilmington, DE to the late Frances B. and Joseph J. Kelly, and lived with her parents until age 44. At that time, she moved to a Bancroft Group Home, where she resided for the last 18 years. Karen graduated from The Wallace Wallen School in 1980. She was then enrolled in day programs at Hudson Center, New Edge, and Chimes which she attended for many years and made lifelong friends. Karen loved coloring, jewelry, trips to the mall, parades, and movies (especially Wizard of Oz, The Three Stooges and monster movies). Her favorite holiday was Halloween. Karen was an active participant in Special Olympics bocce and bowling. She was a gentle spirit and was always happy and loving to all, and will be dearly missed. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Barbara Quirk, brother-in-law, John L. Quirk, Sr. and her brother-in-law, Chick Snavely. She is survived by her loving sister, Nancy (Sissy) Snavely, two nephews, John and Robert Quirk, and a great niece and nephew. She is also survived by her two group home sisters, Susan Scott and Kellee Adams. Nancy wishes to extend her deep appreciation to the staff at Bancroft, especially Lydia and Dara, for their many years of special care of her dear sister. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 9:30am to 10:30am followed by a service at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will follow the service at All Saints Cemetery.
