Josepha A.
Sanzone
March 19, 1939 – February 28, 2026
Josepha A. Sanzone, "Dolly", age 86 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. "Death is not the end, but a new beginning" is how she wished her family viewed her passing.
Josepha was born in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Grace (Shavico-Citro) and Michael N. Sanzone. She is a graduate of St. Elizabeth's High School. Although her immediate family was small with one brother, she had 11 Aunts and Uncles, and many cousins that were a big part of her life.
After working various jobs here in Wilmington, DE, she ended up moving to California to work as a script editor in the motion picture industry. After years of dedication while working under Alfred Hitchcock as his Personal Assistant, she moved her way up to a Production Coordinator for Universal Studios. She was a big fan of John Wayne and was an officer of his fan club and even was invited to his house for dinner. She eventually retired after 35 years in the motion picture industry.
When Josepha wasn't working, she loved to travel the world with her friends who called themselves "the Holiday Girls". One of her favorite places to visit was Coranado Island off San Diego, Marco Island, Florida, and Newport Beach.
Catholic faith was very important part of her life; she was a lifelong parishioner of St. Charles Borremeo Roman Catholic Church in North Hollywood, California. She was President of the Catholic Alumni Association of Los Angles and organized and ran many of their social, religious, conventions, cultural events and gatherings.
Josepha wants to be remembered as fair, honest, loyal and fun person who had a sterling sense of humor. Joy is her favorite word.
Josepha will be dearly missed by her brother Donald C. Sanzone, Sr.; and her nieces and nephews, Donald F. Sanzone, Jr. (Lisa), Michele Thompson (Mark) and Teresa Ann McIntyre (Brad).
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 10A.M. to 11A.M. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11A.M. Burial to follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
