Obituary

Joseph James Picciotti, Jr., 96, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully at his  home on Saturday, August 24th with his beloved wife and his family at his side.

Joe was born on December 21, 1927 to Joseph and Elsie Picciotti. He proudly served in the US Navy at the ending of WorldWar II and during the Korean Conflict as a "TinCan Sailor" on the destroyer USS Johnston (DD821).

Joe was founder of Architectural Hardware Company and J & J Holding Company.  But of all his accomplishments, he will long be remembered as a lead founder of the Mary Campbell Center.  Serving as board member for nearly fifty years, his work at the center was his second life and he cherished his active role there until the time of his death. Joe was fondly known by residents and employees as "Mr. P.", and he always said that he received far more from the center than what he gave.

He is survived by the love of his life JoAnn; by his children Joseph J. III (Susan), John R. (Katherine), and Joanne Rooney (Gregg); and by his son Bradley Gaudioso (Cecilia) and goddaughter Dana DiSabatino-Lascelles (Scott). Joe is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Leon A. Picciotti and his sister Florence P. Connell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 9th and Dupont Streets, on Thursday August 29th at 1:30 P.M., where friends are invited to a visitation after 12 P.M. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mary Campbell Center Foundation (Tax ID #22-2842246),  4641 Weldin Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.
