Joseph Michael
Massey
July 11, 1958 – April 23, 2026
Joseph Michael Massey, age 67, of Linwood, PA passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Linwood, Pennsylvania, Joseph was the son of the late Dorothy (Bethard) and James Massey. Joseph graduated from Chichester Highschool in 1978. He quickly dove into work to support his family by working at Moore's Auto Parts. Joseph started working for Boeing Helicopters in 1988 and after 35 years of dedication, he retired as a Production Controller. He took pride in the production of the CH-47 and the chinook, always eager to talk about their amazing capabilities. He was also an active and contributing member to the 32nd degree of the Masonic Paul Sand Lodge number 298 since 1983 and the United Aerospace Workers local 1069.
Joseph had many career ventures and passions in his life. While working at Boeing he went back to school and graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology with his bachelor's degree in Office Management Technology. A few years later he went back to school and became a real estate agent in his "free time." Joe was great at work/life balance despite how hard he worked he loved taking adventures with his girls, Sandy and Amanda. He especially loved exploring the different beaches around the US and comparing them to his love for the Delaware shoreline (Gloucester, Massachusetts was a close second). His favorite adventure yet was retiring to his beach shack with the love of his life Sandy Massey. They spent years discovering new places and relaxing by the beach. Joe was a lover of all animals, especially his "bird and dolphin friends", his cats, and his sweet dog companion, Bella. He also was a loyal Philadelphia Eagles (Go Birds!) and Phillies fan.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sandy Massey; his children Amanda Massey Buchwald (Don), Jay Massey (Regina), and Joe Massey; and his grandson Tyler Massey. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Massey; and his siblings James Massey and John Massey.
Joe will be remembered for his determination to love his family fully, which was seen throughout his hard-working life and all the way up to the end with his fight through cancer. Although given a maximum of 2 years of life he fought for 3 to walk his "beautiful Amanda girl" down the aisle in her marriage to Don. He was a man of faith who carried his family in prayer, daily devotionals, and sending scripture. In his final days he was at peace knowing he was walking into the arms of the Lord. Joe Massey is a legacy of strength, determination, kindness, and laughter that will be carried through by every person who knew him.
A visitation will be held at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Monday May 11, 2026, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., funeral services to begin at 10:30 A.M. Burial to follow at Lawn Croft Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice. https://delawarehospice.org/general-donation/
