Age 87 of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. His long life was filled with his family's love, his love for his wife and his love of all sports. Joe was born in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Joseph P. Sr. and Sarah Jeanette (McKiernan) Larnick. Joe was a graduate of Altoona High School and was a member of the basketball team. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an electrician for 43 years with the Pennsylvania RR and Amtrak and more importantly enjoyed a 25 year retirement. He served as Recording Secretary and later President of the IBEW Local 2270. Joe was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed the Phillies, Penn State football and Duke basketball. He coached the nationally ranked Amtrak Softball team and was a member of the Amtrak bowling league for many years. He enjoyed toy model trains, furniture refinishing and tending to his tomato plants and flower garden. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Donald W. Larnick, Doris M. Clapper, Betty J. Weamer and Sandra A. Toppin. Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan P. (O'Donnell) Larnick; his sons and their wives, Joseph P., III and Amy E. of Green Brook, NJ and Daniel F. (Danny) and Ann M. Principe-Larnick of Centreville; his daughters, Catherine M. (Cathy) DiSabatino and her husband, E. Andrew, Jr. (Andy) and Mary E. (Mary Beth) Larnick, all of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Eric M., Michael J. and Jocelyn C. and his brother, Robert J. Larnick of Newark.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Clayton and Cedar Streets, Wilmington. Friends may call at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Sunday from 3 to 6 PM. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
