Obituary

Joseph A. Hopp, age 90, of Manasquan, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Joseph was born in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Elizabeth (Grober) and Matthew Hopp. Joseph began working at a young age, and after serving our country honorably in the U.S. Army, he became an iron worker.  Later, Joseph and his wife owned and ran a Bed and Breakfast in the Florida Keys until their retirement. Joseph loved spending time on the beach and in the water, with his hobbies including fishing, swimming, riding the waves, boating, and spending time at the Marathon Yacht Club in the Florida Keys. Joseph loved music and in his younger years had quite a singing voice. In his free time, Joseph was an amateur inventor and tinkerer, and enjoyed watching boxing and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. In addition to his parents, Joseph was also predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Joan E. Hopp; brothers, John, Matthew, George, and Lawrence Hopp; and sister, Theresa Edson.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Teresa Ford and her husband, Jim; son, Joseph T. Hopp and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Kristin Last, Kaitlin Ford, and Lindsay Hopp; great grandchildren, Bretton and Shannon Last; sister, Elizabeth Calderone; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends, all of whom he loved.

Funeral services and burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joseph's name to Clean Ocean Action, 49 Avenel Blvd, Long Branch, NJ 07740 (Cleanoceanaction.org)
