Graney, Sr.
July 27, 1938 – February 6, 2026
Joseph M. Graney, Sr. age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on February 6, 2026 at Maris Grove Retirement Community where he lived for more than the last decade.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Mary (Callahan) and Joseph J. Graney. Joe attended twelve years of schooling at St. Elizabeth's Grade School and St. Elizabeth's High School. He went on to graduate from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia before beginning his career in banking and automotive sales. He started at Associates Bank where he would meet Joyce his future wife.
Following his retirement from sales, Joe went on to work at Sacred Heart Village, serving the elderly. Joe was a founding parishioner of Resurrection Parish in Wilmington and was deeply committed to his catholic faith. The oldest of nine in a large Irish family. He loved to celebrate his Irish heritage. He was a member of the Irish Society and later the Irish Club at Maris Grove. He was also involved with the Jesus House since its founding and spent countless hours volunteering with his wife, Joyce. He enjoyed spending time at Longwood Gardens, but most importantly, cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Kurosky) Graney; his grandson, Brandon; and his sister, Cass Maddams. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Tricia Herron (Mark), Kathy Lafferty (Edward), Colleen Bialecki (John), Elizabeth Ann Graney, and Joseph M. Graney, Jr. (Dawn); and his beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Kristina, Dylan, Jake, Lauren, Seth, Corinna, Josh and Emily; his great grandchildren, Xavier and Harper; his companion, Mary Louise Chesley-Cora; and his siblings, Paul Graney, Fr. William Graney, Sr. Margaret Mary OSB, Eileen Carroll, Jean Frabizzio, Patricia Kriebel, and Michael Graney; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday February 11th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE 19808. Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following morning at 11 A.M. at Resurrection Parish, at the address above. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Jesus House Prayer and Renewal, 2501 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808 or the Ministry of Caring, 115 East 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
