Obituary

Jonathan Keith Pallett, lovingly known as "Jon," passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2026, at 39 years young following a motorcycle accident on Limestone Road in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born on January 28, 1987, in Lewiston, Idaho, Jon was the beloved son of Dwight Pallett and Sheri Arnold, and was also loved by Maribeth Pallett. He grew up surrounded by the rugged beauty and strong values of the West, spending time between his hometown of Lewiston, Idaho and his family ranch in Lewistown, Montana — places that helped shape his adventurous spirit, work ethic, and deep appreciation for family and country life.

Jon graduated from Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Idaho, where he participated in wrestling and enjoyed competing in national rodeo events throughout his early years. He learned the art of building and craftsmanship alongside his uncle, developing skills and ingenuity that remained evident throughout his life. His playful humor often accompanied those talents, as he would jokingly ask his mother-in-law for a sock for "Dobby" whenever another project or repair opportunity appeared.

Jon proudly served his country for nine years in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant while working within The Brig as a counselor. During his military career, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California; Yuma, Arizona; and Okinawa, Japan.

Following his military service, Jon continued his commitment to public service through the State of Delaware Department of Correction, where he faithfully served for 11 years and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Jon was deeply respected by his coworkers for his professionalism, leadership skills, calm presence under pressure, and unwavering dedication to the safety and care of both staff and others around him.

Throughout his life, Jon formed deep and enduring bonds of brotherhood with those he loved and loyally supported through both life's greatest joys and its most difficult moments. Whether among his brothers and peers within the Delaware Department of Correction, the lifelong relationships forged during his years in the United States Marine Corps, or the cherished friendships cultivated through his bourbon club, what Jon valued most in life was family, connection, loyalty, laughter, and showing up for the people he loved.

Those bonds did not end with Jon's passing. They continue on through the unwavering support, strength, and love now being extended to one another and to Jon's family — just as Jon would have wanted. His family will forever be grateful for the extraordinary friendships and brotherhoods that surrounded Jon throughout his life and allowed him to experience such genuine love, loyalty, and a sense of belonging during his time on earth.

Above all else, Jon fiercely loved and protected his wife, Samantha Pallett, whom family and friends could often hear him affectionately calling, "Sam!" Their relationship was rooted in friendship, adventure, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Jon found joy in the everyday moments they shared together — from quiet movie nights at home to adventurous travels along the bourbon trail and exploring national parks throughout the United States.

Together, they shared a love for gentling wild mustang horses adopted through the Bureau of Land Management and spending time together at Sweet Haven Farm in New Jersey. Jon also carried a deep appreciation for ranch life from the time he spent at his grandparents' ranch in Montana.

Jon had a personality that naturally drew people in. Genuine, compassionate, funny, and larger than life, he had a way of lighting up every room he entered. Often the loudest laugh in the room, Jon also possessed the rare ability to slow down, truly listen, and make others feel heard. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer support, or simply sit and hear someone's story.

He was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan who loved spirited football banter with family and friends, and he created lasting memories through his humor, loyalty, generosity, and unmistakable presence.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Samantha Pallett; his father, Dwight Pallett (Maribeth); his mother, Sheri Arnold; siblings Jessica Roslyn and Samantha Jameson; mother-in-law Patricia Schumann; father-in-law Scott Draper (Denise); brother-in-law Aaron Draper (Lindsey); his beloved dogs Fen, Weller, and NuLu; and the enduring memory of his special bond with Ruger. He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and a grandniece.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jon's life at a Celebration of Life gathering on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Chuck Lager America's Tavern, located at 4500 New Linden Hill Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. For overflow parking, please use the lot at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE, 19808, where there is a walking path to Chuck Lager America's Tavern.

In honoring Jon's memory, his family hopes for continued conversations surrounding improved traffic safety measures at the Limestone Road intersections where flashing red lights ask drivers to pause, look, and wait — but where serious accidents have forever impacted many lives and families.

Even in passing, Jon's instinct to help others endured. Through successful organ and tissue donation with Gift of Life Donor Program, Jon continued giving to others in one final act of generosity and compassion.

Though his time here was far too short, Jon's larger-than-life spirit, deep loyalty, infectious humor, and extraordinary love for those closest to him will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

So let's all raise a glass, share a smile, offer a hug, and celebrate our bonds in a way Jon would have wanted.

For the Celebration of Life, the family is requesting casual attire with boots and Cowboy hats optional.
