John H. Woodin, age 68, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at his home on November 19th 2017 surrounded by his family after a 16 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.John was born in Ridley Park, PA, the son of the late Rosario (Carreras) and John A. Woodin. He graduated from McKean High School, where he played varsity basketball, baseball, and cross-country. John graduated from Goldey Beacom Junior College as a part of their first graduating class in 1969. He continued his education at Wilmington College, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1979.After graduating from Wilmington College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. John did tours in the Philippines and Italy as a Morse Systems Operator from 1969 to 1973. After he returned to the United States, he worked for 27 years at Dupont until his retirement in October of 2001. In addition to working as the Benefits Administration Manager at Dupont, he worked for 12 years at Woodin Associates/ Lifestyle Homes as an accountant, and as a slot attendant at the Sands Casino and Hotel for 2 years.John's interests always included sports, as he played baseball in the Wilmington Semi-Pro League for two years before joining the military. While in the military, he played basketball on the air base in San Vito, Italy. His team traveled to Madrid, Spain for tournaments and played against local Italian teams. He also coached and served as the Senior League Vice President of the Newark National Little League. John was an Eagle's season ticket holder for 20 years. His other interests included astronomy, genealogy, and traveling to national parks and other scenic locations. All of this was overshadowed by this extreme love and devotion for his family.John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah Woodin of Newark, DE; his son, Christopher J. Woodin of Newark, DE; his daughters, Pam Lafferty (Mark) of Newark, DE, and Mandy Woodin of Middletown, DE; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Gavin, Jacob, Ava, Nicholas, and Payton.The family would like to thank Dr. S. Eric Martin, Dr. William Funk and the staff of Christiana Care for their compassion and care.A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28th from 10AM to 11AM where services will begin at 11AM at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808.
