Obituary

John F. Vernon, Jr. "Jack", age 72, of Newark, DE passed away on March 6th, 2026. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Louise (Catts) Prizer and John F. Vernon, Sr. Jack grew up in Chadds Ford and spent his early years in the Chadds Ford-Unionville School district. He then attended Salesianum School and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. He spent his career in jewelry sales working for many notable local jewelers including Carl Doubet Jewelers, Bailey Banks and Biddle, and Janvier Jewelers. He was currently employed at Jos. A. Banks, where he enjoyed selling the clothing he loved to wear.

Jack was an avid sports fan and cheered for all Philly teams. He had the unique gift of a sharp memory and could accurately recite team stats for every sport throughout the season. In addition to watching his favorite teams Jack enjoyed spending time on the golf course, tending to his feline friends and reading a good book.

In addition to his parents and stepmother Carlie Vernon, Jack was predeceased by his half-sister, Drein Vernon, his brother, Thomas Vernon and his step siblings Faye and Bruce Levy. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Diane and Ken Love, Linda and John Hicks, and Cheryl Zimmermann, half siblings Ann Sanford, Lindsay Levy, Maureen Gold, Sean Vernon and Gillian Vernon, step sister, Nina Locardi, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held privately. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
