John Tanzilli, age 92, of Wilmington, DE passed away surrounded by his family on March 14, 2024.
Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Florence (San Lorenzo) and Anthony Tanzilli, John attended Queens College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He worked as a Contract Administrator and Buyer for Thiokol Chemical, eventually retiring from United Engineers in Philadelphia. John loved to fish at his beach house on Bowers Beach. He enjoyed taking the head boats out onto the water several times a week and looked forward to his annual fishing trip with his sons. John had a large record collection and enjoyed music, including Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. John valued his Italian heritage and enjoyed eating Italian food. His favorite pastimes included those spent with his family, especially his wife of 53 years, Lois, and his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those closest to him.
John is survived by his wife, Lois Tanzilli; his children and their spouses, John Thomas and Elizabeth "Beth" Tanzilli, William Joseph and Melissa "Missy" Tanzilli, Thomas Anthony Tanzilli and his fiancée, Karen Sparco, and Stephanie Ann and Michael Anthony Farmer; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Alex, Will, Timothy, Shannon, Tiara, Brion, Danny, Tony, Johnny, and Heather; his great grandchildren, Jack, Bria, Jax, Gia, Anthony, Heath, Trish, and Wyatt; his great great grandchildren, Owen, Liam, Mac, Saylor, Waverly, and Waylon; his brother, Richard Tanzilli; and his former wife, Rose Eastburn. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Loretta Tanzilli.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name can be made to the Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, DE 19702 or Human Animal Partners, 455 Stanton Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713.
