Obituary

Ocean View - John Joseph Myura passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's at the Delaware Veteran's Home in Milford, DE on March 11, 2023.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 4, 1938, John was the son of Lou and Marie Myura.  Upon graduation from West Catholic High School, John proudly served his country with the US Marine Corps.  John then started his career with Exxon Corporation, where he worked for 35 years.  He was most proud of providing for his wife Anita and five children.  John was also an avid bodybuilder, enjoying many years at Kirkwood Fitness and in retirement at the local gym in Ocean View, DE.

Soon after retirement John and Anita moved from Wilmington to their home of 23 years in Ocean View, DE.  John was never one to sit idle and truly enjoyed staying active in his retirement working several jobs which included delivering stone to residential properties at the beach and later, driving a shuttle in Bethany Beach.  John's perfect day was putting in a day of work, a nice happy hour on his deck, and a family dinner.  John was a working man who knew how to enjoy life but most of all he enjoyed the simplest things, time with family and friends.

Some of our fondest memories include our times together for holiday dinners and as a family watching the team he loved most, the Philadelphia Eagles.  We have so many special memories together at John and Anita's condo in Ocean City, MD and later at their home in Ocean View DE.  In his retirement John took on a love for boating which led to many great memories on his pontoon boat, navigating the Assawoman Bay looking for an island to anchor for lunch and a glass of wine - such great memories we had the opportunity to share.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Anita this past September.  After almost 60 years of marriage, it is hard to think of one without the other.  John is survived by his five children, Lisa Gray (Jim), Linda Reagan (Jim), Christine Parsells (Al), Michelle Reda, and John Myura (Denise); his grandchildren, John, Alex (Ryan), Kellie (Matt), Jimmy, Michele (Dan), Madelynn, Adriana, John, Luke, Evan, Alexis, Sophia; and his great grandchildren Alex and Louie.

A visitation will be held on Monday March 20th from 10am to 11am with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd, Newark, DE 19711.  Burial will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Online condolences may be made at mealeyfuneralhomes.com
