John Gerard Morabito

John Gerard Morabito, 70, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, October 23, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Wilmington to the late Dorothy (Bramble) and Angelo Morabito. John graduated from Salesianum School in 1974, attended Ferrum College, earned his degree from Shippensberg State College, and received a master’s degree from Virginia Tech University. His 30-year football coaching career included serving as offensive line and track team coach at Ferrum and The Glen Mills (Pa.) Schools; offensive line coach and later offensive coordinator at Salesianum; and defensive coordinator for one year at St. Joseph’s High School in St. Augustine, Fla. He was especially proud of winning the 1972 State Championship at Salesianum and helping coach the school to the 1993 State Championship.

John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Kirsten of Odessa, FL, and Cory and Lauren of St. Augustine, FL; his granddaughter, Winifred; and his stepson, Ryan Lord, Ryan’s wife, Lindsay, of West Chester, PA, and their children, Teddy, Ben, and Molly. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Eileen Morabito; his nephews, Andrew and Jose; and many cousins and friends.

Friends may call at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.
