John G. McWilliams

John G. McWilliams, age 75, of Wilmington, DE passed away surrounded by his family on September 6, 2026. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Geraldine (Brumbaugh) and Joe McWilliams. John retired from Bank of America after 20 years of service. He was an avid golfer and who liked to be outside whether cutting the grass or searching for the perfect Christmas bush. John also enjoyed playing cards with friends and traveling to the Virginia Beach area. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially if it was causing chaos with his four grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and countless friends, all who loved his sarcasm and wit.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Joyce L. Clark. John is survived by his wife, with whom he shared 53 blissful years of marriage, Gladys (Eastburn) McWilliams; his daughters and their spouses, Karen and Mark Weber, and Amy and Brian Versmessen; his grandchildren, Madison and Haley Weber, and Jude and Rhys Versmessen; his brother, Joe McWilliams and Joe’s wife Patricia; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the team at Christiana Hospital SCCC for their dedicated care of John during his stay and all of the kind people they encountered along the way.

A visitation will be held on Friday evening September 11th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, September 12th at 11 A.M. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to American Cancer Society.
