John A. Liszkiewicz

May 30, 1953 — June 26, 2026

John A. Liszkiewicz peacefully passed away on June 26, 2026, at the age of 73 in Wilmington, Delaware.

John was born on May 30, 1953, in Wilmington to Anthony F. Liszkiewicz and Florence (Kaczorowski) Liszkiewicz. A trained engineer who graduated from Salesianum School and Villanova University, his true passion was tutoring advanced mathematics at West End Neighborhood House, the YMCA, and The Salvation Army. In addition, John was a dedicated volunteer coach for various athletic teams.

He was a voracious reader and lifelong learner, highly involved in his community, and affectionately known as the “Unofficial Mayor of West Wilmington.” A friend to all, he is now happily reunited with the family and friends who predeceased him.

He is survived by his devoted lifelong partner, Maria Shevchenko; his brother, Thomas (Ann) Liszkiewicz; his niece and nephews, Jude, Tucker, Adrienne, and Ryan; his loving aunt and godmother, Frances Kulaszewski; his faithful cousin, Donna Kitts, who was like a sister to him, and her sons, Brian, Shawn, and Andrew; and his cousins, Gary Kulaszewski and Alfred Kaczorowski Jr. John also leaves behind a host of dear friends, especially Maria’s brother, Dmytro Shevchenko (Paul Distefano).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony F. and Florence Liszkiewicz; his brother, Anthony “Antos” Liszkiewicz; and his devoted uncles, Alfred Kaczorowski Sr. and Leo Kulaszewski, and Donna’s husband, Jim Kitts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to AccentCare Hospice, especially Ashley, Lisa, and JJ, for their outstanding care and compassion shown to John and his family.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Services will be private.
