Age 93, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at Franciscan Healthcare at Brackenville on Sunday, April 10, 2016.Born in Wilmington, DE, on March 14, 1923, John was the son of Verna and John Redmond, Sr. He was preceded in death by his first wife Florence (Hanlon), his daughter, Kathleen, his sister Anita Barnett and his brother, James.He attended Conrad High School and served his country in World War II in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He worked for the B&O Railroad as an Engineer for 34 years. He was a member Corpus Christi Church in Elsmere years before retiring downstate. John was an avid golfer, boatsman, and enjoyed spending summer days fishing and crabbing with family, and "Happy Hour". John was a lifetime member of the VFW of Rehoboth Beach.John devoted his life caring for his invalid daughter Kathleen. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by his second wife, Anna Mae Grant; his son, John III and Margaret Mary; his daughter, Elaine and Charles Gross; his grandchildren, Colleen Redmond, David Redmond, John Paul Bowdle and Amy Wilkinson; six great grandchildren, Megan, Anna, Ashley, Gabrielle, Lauren and MacKenna; and a great great granddaughter, Harmony. The family would like to extend a special thanks for their care of Dad to Linda and Mike as well as the staff of the Franciscan Healthcare Center for their compassionate care of our father.Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 15th at 2 PM at the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends are invited to visitation after 1 PM. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
