John W. Hanby, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
John was born and raised in Newark, DE, son of Doris (Starr) and the late Robert Miller, Sr. John graduated from Newark High School in 1978 and continued on to master the trade of land surveying. He worked as a successful and skilled surveyor for East Coast Survey until his retirement. He spent his free time doing the things he loved most including, going fishing, his almost weekly rides on his motorcycle - "Kickstands up at 10am at DeerPark" on Sundays, and spending time either at his 'Round Table' or in his garage A.K.A the "Man Cave". He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His family described him as a gentle giant with a big heart who would do anything, for anyone. He always had a way of making everyone around him smile - whether with one of his jokes or a big hug. He was always there to listen and had some of the best 'words or wisdom.' In addition to his father, John was predeceased by his sister, Susan Hanby.
John is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Donna Hanby; his son Zach (Christine) Hanby; his stepson Harry O'Bryan (Amy); his stepdaughter Jenny O'Bryan, five grandchildren - Hayden, Elizabeth, Ryan & Julia Hanby and Dylan O'Bryan; brother Robert Miller Jr. (Janice), several nieces and nephews and countless close life-long friends and family.
