Obituary

John Wayne Augustus Filliben, 88 of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Accent Care Hospice.

John was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Ann V. (McCloskey) and Joseph F. Filliben. He graduated from Archmere Academy, attended Delaware Technical College and served his country in the U.S. Army and worked as a laboratory technician for the DuPont Company for 18 years. John was the owner and operator of the Parts Place on Maryland Avenue for 35 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Hagarty) "Peggy Ann" Filliben in 2003 and his son, Jeffrey Filliben in 1998.

He was an avid tennis player, enjoyed playing golf, going to Delaware Park, attending grandchildren's sporting events, and being a member of the Defiance Club.

John is survived by his sons and their wives, Shawn and Cynthia of Palm Coast, FL, Dennis and Rebecca, Theodore and Francine, Eugene and Tracy, all of Wilmington and Joel and Megan of Newark; his daughter-in-law, Suzanne Filliben; his friend Patricia Davia; grandchildren, Alexis (Berkowitz) Blackford, Ian Roddy, Eric Berkowitz, Lyndsey Filliben, Joseph Filliben, Brittany (Filliben) Smith, Devon Filliben, Ryan Filliben, John Charles Filliben, Taylor Filliben, Jeff Filliben, Julia Filliben, Luke Filliben, Brett Filliben; and great grandchildren, Alaina Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Emerson Berkowitz, Jordan Blackford, Emmitt Jenkins, Madden Berkowitz, Julia Blackford, Shea Filliben, Cooper Filliben, Miles Smith

A viewing will be held at St. Matthews Church, 901 E Newport Pike, Wilmington from 10 to 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 14, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to American Heart Association.
