John H. Compello, "Jack", age 88, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at his son's home on Friday, June 29, 2018, surrounded by his family.Jack was born in Shamokin, PA the son of the late Ethel (Harris) and Richard D. Compello. He attended Penn State University and worked in the office furniture and product sales division for John Hanby's and Berger Brothers until finally retiring at the age of 82. Jack was an avid sports fan, coaching Midway Little League Baseball for many years. NY Yankee's baseball and college basketball were his favorites. His kindness for animals was apparent as he always had a four-legged friend by his side. He was a doting father, grandfather and uncle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ruth Compello.Jack will be missed by his children and their spouses, Christine and Michael Welz of Hockessin and Erik and Pilar Compello of Newark; his grandchildren, Nathan and Devan Welz, Shane and Carter Compello and Cody Barnett; his nieces, Ruthann Moyle (John) and Joan Snyder and his nephew, Rick Compello. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 AM at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr, Wilmington, DE 19804.
