JoAnn C. Kubasko, age 81 of Wilmington, DE passed away surrounded by her family on March 28, 2024.
Born in a small coal mining town in upstate Wanamie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Reneski) and Joseph Cherneski. She graduated from IBM School and went on to work as an Executive Secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield. She moved on to work as an Executive Secretary for Anchor Hocking Glassware in Philadelphia and Rollins Leasing in Wilmington. JoAnn spent some time working in Legislative Hall in Dover before beginning her career at the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington. JoAnn served as the Legal Secretary for the Tribunal of the Catholic Diocese for 35 years. She was loyal and devoted; impacting thousands through canonical and religious guidance at the Tribunal. It was truly her ministry and vocation to serve others to better their lives. She took great pride and satisfaction in her work.
JoAnn adored her family and loved to cook. Her passion was to keep and pass down special family traditions, especially the Polish traditions. JoAnn's favorite being Wigilia; a traditional Christmas Eve family supper. For JoAnn, it was a feast. She would take off a week to cook, bake and prepare for this very special night family tradition. JoAnn was happiest when her closest and extended family and friends were gathered together.
JoAnn loved flowers, plants and was an avid horticulturist being a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. She loved trips to Longwood Gardens, creating flower arrangements for her friends and family and maintaining a beautiful garden. She also loved coffee and her quest everywhere she went to find the perfect cup or in her case POT of coffee.
She absolutely loved the beach and spending time with the family at Long Beach Island and Cape May, NJ. The beach was her "Happy" place. JoAnn was a passionate sports fan and enjoyed all sports but most importantly, loved rooting on the Golden State Warriors.
JoAnn loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by those closest to her.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Kubasko, Sr.; her children and their spouses, James "Jim" Jr. and Michelle Kubasko and Holly Ann and Joseph Sammons; her grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, and Annalise Kubasko, and Joseph Sammons, Jr.; her brothers, Daniel Cherneski (Barbara) and Joseph Cherneski (Mary); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, JoAnn is predeceased by her sisters, Dolores Golonoski and Marie Sepela.
A visitation will be held on Thursday April 4th, 2024 from 10 A.M to 11:30 A.M. at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 A.M. Burial will be held privately. Online condolences may be made at mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
