Obituary

Jerome A. Gebhart, age 80, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Alice (Clark) and John Gebhart, Sr. In his early years, he served in The United States Navy as a Machinist's Mate Second Class E-5. He was stationed on the USS Hunley over in Scotland. After meeting the love of his life, Marge, he chose to settle down, devoting himself to family life as a loving husband and father, and honorably concluded his time in the service. He was a proud member of Local Union 80/74 spending his career as a pipe-fitter for 57 years. Jerry's passion was model trains and was an avid storyteller. He would always be the one to break the ice by cracking an often inappropriate, but funny joke. Jerry also loved to travel, especially to visit his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a dedicated family-man and enjoyed spending his free time with his children and grandchildren.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret A. Gebhart; his daughter, Kimberly A. Gravatt; his sons, Jerome A. Gebhart, Jr. "Jerry" and John A. Gebhart; his granddaughters, Alicia N. Gravatt and Melissa A. Gravatt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday October 16th from 5:30-7:30 P.M. with funeral services to begin at 7:30 P.M at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held the following morning at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2516 Chesapeake City Road Bear, DE 19701 at 11 A.M.
