Jeffie Mae Hinkle

Jeffie Mae Hinkle, age 82, of Wilmington, DE formerly of O‘ahu, Hawaii, passed away on September 11, 2026.

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Ruby (Short) and Franklin Carroll. Jeffie grew up as a member of a military family and traveled often. She graduated from James B. Castle High School in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She went on to meet the love of her life, Thomas, while working as a bookkeeper at the Officers Club while in North Carolina. Jeffie and Thomas traveled all over the world due to his work, and were stationed in many different places including Japan, Korea, Pearl Harbor, and Wilmington, Delaware. Jeffie worked as a substitute teacher and in bookkeeping, in addition to being a dedicated homemaker for her husband and son. Following Thomas’ retirement from the military, they made O’ahu, Hawaii, their home and resided there until 2019.

Jeffie enjoyed fishing of all kinds; wherever she could throw down her line, she would. She spent her free time shopping, everywhere and anywhere, and enjoyed spending time at Delaware Park. Her greatest joy was her family, and she will be dearly missed by those in Delaware and Hawaii.

Jeffie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Hinkle; her son, Keoni Hinkle; her grandchildren, Misha, Grace, Zach, and Kayla; her great grandson, Kyro; her adopted children, Alicia “Pumpkin” and Adrianne; her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Livingston; her O’ahu family, Bonnie, Carolyn, Honey, Kevin and Jill; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday September 17th from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Homes, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately.
