Jean T. Stapleford, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023 after a long battle of cancer.

Jean was the daughter of Dorothy (Braun) and John Barnes. She was the oldest of six sisters. Jean was a graduate of William Penn High School. She married her husband of 58 years in August 21, 1954.  After raising her children, she ventured off to work starting in Avon, and then got a job working at the Wilmington Credit Bureau in collections. Jean was a family person, she loved her family, always trying to keep her sisters and family close by and treating friends as part of her own family. She loved the traditional holidays spent together with family and looked forward to her yearly trips to Florida with her sister, Doris and her husband, Jack. She enjoyed spending her yearly vacations with her sisters and their spouses and all of the special weekends together at Reeds Beach with her family, as well as her 42 years of Girls Weekends with her sisters, daughters, and friends. The love and compassion she had with people will forever by in our hearts.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and John Barnes; her beloved husband John W. Stapleford and her sister Doris Celli. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Theresa Perlin (Marc), John Stapleford, Marilyn Evanousky (Bob), Cheryl Krygier (Dan), Stephanie Fuhr (Mike), Bruce Stapleford (Angel), and Maurice Stapleford (Lisa); her 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and soon to be great great grandchild along with her beloved sisters, Dorothy Novello, Connie Noel, Cindy Johnson and Jacqueline Riegel.

A visitation will be held at Mealey's Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Wednesday January 11th, 2023 from 10 AM to 12PM with services beginning at 12PM.  Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park,  Online condolences may be made to mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
