Jean H. Boyle, age 90, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 8, 2020. Born in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late Lenore (Goulette) and Ray H. Holmes and sister to Marilyn Krug (Tom) and the late Jack Holmes (Mary). Jean attended Chestnut Hill College and went on to work in public relations at Wanamaker's and as a society columnist for The Philadelphia Bulletin. She had so many unique experiences at these jobs, the most memorable of which was her selection to accompany Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in WWII as he rode on the back of a convertible in the Philadelphia ticker-tape parade celebration. She also received a gift of a free honeymoon in Bermuda from the Travel Editor at The Bulletin. Jean's working career in Philadelphia was short but illustrious. It came to an end shortly after her marriage to the love of her life, Hugh Boyle, when they were transferred to Mobile, Alabama… and she never looked back! Wherever she lived, Jean gave her all to church outreach in her community. She was a regular - cooking and serving meals at the soup kitchen, choosing the most special giving tree present that she felt would melt the heart of the recipient child, and spending a day each year wrapping for IHM Adopt-a-Family. Jean had a great eye for design and decorating, was always the life of the party and an amazing cook, loved music, dancing and entertaining - all earning her the title of "Hostess with the Mostest". She was the loving and devoted mother of 4 children: Hugh (Anne), Leigh Ann Flickinger, Jeff (Regina) and Jacqueline Bourke (Rich). Jean enjoyed everything about being a mother and took pride in supporting her children's many endeavors. No one knows how she got it all done - from cheering at sporting events all year round to lending her editing skills to everything from school papers to resumes, packing delicious lunches, creating prize winning Halloween costumes and providing advice and support for just about any situation four kids could be involved in. Jean absolutely loved being a mom and made it seem effortless. She cherished her lifetime spent with four generations in Harvey Cedars, NJ, on Long Beach Island. Jean's favorite moments at the shore included filling her infamous "Beach Bag" with candy and treats to share with the grandchildren on the beach. She also spent countless hours searching for "perfect" shells. Traveling was her passion, and she shared it with her family. Jean waited all year long to plan their next year's two-week camping adventure. The family ultimately covered the country from Key West to Prince Edward Island and Chincoteague to Yellowstone. When Hugh retired, they went abroad to see the world. Jean was truly one of a kind, lit up a room with her contagious laughter and lived her life to the fullest. Her soul mate and husband of 47 years, Hugh Francis, predeceased her and we are sure they are reunited in heaven. Jean is survived by her eleven grandchildren: Cotter, Jesse, Carlisle, Colleen, Ryan, Lauren, Kevin, Natalie, Caitlin, Patrick and Meagan. They were truly her pride and joy! As Jean would want, the family suggests doing an act of kindness in lieu of flowers. A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated in Jean's honor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Saturday December 12th at 12 pm.
