Obituary

Jay Rodney Schlink, Jr., age 38, of Newark, DE, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday June 16, 2018. Born in Wilmington, Jay was the son of Michele (Fusco) and Jay R. Schlink, Sr. He attended Hodgson Vocational Technical High School and studied CAD Engineering. He awarded first place in the State, and Regional award for CAD & Machining during his junior and senior years of high school. He helped to design the first facial implant. He went on to work at Johnson and Johnson, developing other medical implants. Jay was an avid musician, playing in "Dash Board Jeezus", "What Mama Said", and "Feeling Lucky". He loved radio-controlled airplanes, his drone, and most of all, adored his daughter, giving hugs to others. Friends stated, "He had wisdom beyond his years." He is survived by his newly-wed wife, Angela Schlink; his daughter, Lydia Schlink of Newark, DE; his parents, Michele and Jay R. Schlink, Sr. of Townsend, DE; his mother and father-in-law, Donato and Renee Mazzola of Newark, DE; his sister, Melissa Schlink-Davis (David) of Townsend, DE; his nieces, Michela Davis and Ava Sobel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.A visitation will be held on Wednesday June 20th from 5-8 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. An additional visitation will be held on Thursday June 21st from 3-5 P.M. with services beginning at 5 P.M. at the Townsend Church, 4519 DuPont Parkway Townsend, DE 19734. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lydia Schlink Education Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 84 University Dr, Newark, DE 19702. Online condolences may be made at mealeyfuneralhomes.com.
