Obituary

Janice Pamela Cahill "Pam", 76, of Hockessin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Rockland Place.

Pam was born in Fernandina, FL, the daughter of the late Lillian and William Herndon. At the age of 5, Pam's family moved to Savannah, GA where she attended St. James Elementary School, and St. Vincent's Academy High School.

Upon graduation, Pam entered the Religious Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in West Chester, PA. While learning about religious life, she also received degrees in both math and teaching at Immaculata College (now University).

Three years later, Pam made First Profession of Vows in the Chapel of the new IHM Motherhouse at Immaculata, PA. In that same year, Pam started teaching at St. Joseph School in Aston, PA. She later taught and became principal of St. Matthew School, and eventually ended her teaching career at St. Thomas the Apostle of Wilmington. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church and former member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and Resurrection Parish.

Over 20 years after entering religious life, Pam felt that God was leading her to a different call. With the proper dispensations, Pam went on to discern what that new call was, becoming a wife and mother. In November of 1989 Bill and Pam wed, and over the next 5 years, adopted three beautiful children, the true loves of her life.

She enjoyed attending the theatre, celebrations with her "dinner group," and long weekends at the family beach house. She was also a beautiful singer and talented artist. In her later years of life Pam took up crochet. She enjoyed making gifts for friends and family as well as donations to various organizations including the Newark Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, Pam was predeceased by her brother, William Craig Herndon. Pam will be dearly missed by her husband of 34 years, William R. Cahill, Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Brian DiGiovanni of Philadelphia, PA; her sons, William R. Cahill, III and John C. Cahill, both of Hockessin; her grandchildren, Camilla, Luca and Alessio and her brother, William Kevin Herndon of Savannah, GA.
