Janette Barbara Blizzard, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, went to the Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Janette, born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, W.I., was the daughter of the late Dorothy (King) DeFague and the late John DeFague. After high school, she worked in the business office at Electrical Contractors in Port of Spain. She also worked in the business offices of Woolworth, Ames, WestPoint Stevens and VF outlet until she retired. She married Charles Floyd Blizzard who was in the United States Marine Corps at the time. They gave birth to 4 children: Sr. Judith Marie Blizzard, a Felician Sister of North America, Charles "Rusty" Blizzard, Michael Blizzard and Patrick Blizzard. Janette also had 4 grandchildren: Charlotte, Amanda, Patrick and Hannah and 8 great grandchildren. Her siblings include Angela Smith (Robert) of Virginia, Patsy Grimm and Michael DeFague (Marietta) of Delaware and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brothers Johnny and Stephen, and her sister Judith.
Janette was a woman of quick wit, spunk, generosity, creativity and unwavering faith. Her passion was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved nature, sunsets, flowers, plants, cats, bears and birds. She enjoyed being with her family, nurturing plants, listening to music, singing, storytelling, writing poetry, reading mysteries, celebrating Christmas, creating beauty, and cooking Trinidadian food for her family. Her faith in God was important to her and gave her a hopeful outlook on life.
A visitation for Janette will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 10A.M. to 11A.M. With a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 A.M. Burial to follow at St. Patrick's Ashland Cemetery.
