Janet Olivere Stevens, age 75, of Millsboro, Delaware, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 23, 2020. Janet was born in Wilmington, Delaware and was the daughter of the late Winifred (Fisher) and Charles Olivere, sister of the late Denis Olivere and sister-in-law of the late James Durante. Janet was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, class of 1962. After high school, she went on to pursue additional training and certifications in the cosmetology field. Janet was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Janet enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures including feeding and watching "her hummingbirds", gardening, enjoying the views of the bay from her home, dolphin and eagle watching, and was even an active bowler, who at one time, participated in many recreational leagues. She was very proud that she learned to use social media and Skype to stay connected with loved ones near and far. Most of all, Janet found joy in communicating and checking in on the ones she loved. She will be remembered as a pillar and beacon in the family, the first to answer a call, the first to offer advice or lend a hand, and the first to wish you a happy birthday. Her beacon will continue to shine bright, as she continues to watch over her loved ones.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Michael Stevens. She is also survived by her daughter, Judith Gliniak (Michael), her sons, Michael Stevens Jr. (Karen) and Jeffery Stevens (Steffi); her grandchildren, Ashley Tonkinson (Gregory), Lauren Fuchs (Douglas), Michael Stevens III (Megan), Andrew Gliniak, and Colton Stevens; 1 great-grandchild, Michael Stevens IV; her four sisters, Maryann Durante, Denise (Tom) Amatuzio, Kathleen Humphrey (Phil), and Carol Sullivan (Bernard); and her brother, Charles Olivere (Velta). Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an abundance of friends also survive her.
Funeral services will be held privately. An open celebration of Janet's life will be announced at a future date. Burial will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Delaware.
During this time of social distancing, the family encourages friends and family to share a touching memory, photo, or story in celebration of Janet's life on her Facebook Page (@Janet Olivere Stevens).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society (ACS) at 92 Reads Way, Newcastle DE 19720. Additionally, the family encourages you to give your parent, grandparent, or loved one a call to say hi and tell them how much you love them.
