Valimont
July 1, 1929 – June 7, 2023
James Edward Valimont, of Wilmington, age 93, died on June 7, 2023, at home.
Born in Munson, PA on July 1, 1929, Mr. Valimont was the son of the late Lloyd Valimont and Julia (Drobnack) Valimont of Frenchville, PA. His primary education was completed in the Keewaydin Grade School, and he graduated from Clearfield High School, Clearfield, PA in 1947. He enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and was a radio-electronics technician flying in the Air Sea Rescue branch. Upon honorable discharge he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduated in 1955 and accepted an engineering position with the Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore developing guided missile systems and was assigned to Project Vanguard, our first attempt to put a satellite in space. In 1958 he joined the Du Pont Company in Wilmington, Delaware working in the Electronics Instrumentation section of the Central Research Department. In 1969 he left to accept a professorship at Salem Community College, Carneys Point New Jersey, teaching engineering subjects. While there, he authored two textbooks, published by Rutgers University, and continued furthering his education graduating from Wilmington University and Rowan University, where he obtained his post graduate degree. After 10 years of teaching, he joined the Occidental Chemical Company in New Castle, Delaware as a Senior Instrument Engineer and retired in 1999 at age 70. He was active in many professional, civic, and religious organizations, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a violin player and a model train enthusiast.
James was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas V. Valimont of Jamestown, NY.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Bernadine Valimont, children Kathleen M. Schreiber, David James Valimont and Patricia Ann Forster, three grandchildren Christina M. Rein, Lauren N. Salter and Sarah L. Schreiber, and two great-grandchildren Addison J. Rein and Chase P. Rein, his twin Sister Agnes Valimont, O.S.C. Chesterfield, New Jersey, and Sisters Regina V. Kline of Landenberg, PA, Dorothy A. Seek, of Gray, TN.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may call from 10 am to 11 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will be in the Keewaydin Cemetery, in Frenchville, PA.
