James E. Sheehan, age 75, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 21, 2022.

James was born in Wilmington, son of the late Catherine (Brown) and Walter V. Sheehan. He graduated from Salesianum School, where he was an avid athlete who lettered in five sports for the Sals. He went on to play collegiate football at the university of North Carolina and was a proud Tarheel. James taught and coached at Salesianum before moving on to become the first athletic director and head football coach at the Glen Mills Reform School. James was a devoted Catholic, who frequently attended Mass and prayed. His family describes him as a man who loved helping everyone in any way he could.

In his free time, James was a proud member and sponsor of Alcoholics Anonymous, enjoyed watching sports, and spending time with his cats. In addition to his parents, James was pre deceased by his son, James Edward Sheehan; brother, Buddy Sheehan; and sisters, Peggy Sheehan and Sally Herron.

James is survived by his wife, Patty Sheehan; children, Cari Hutchison, Jamie Sheehan, Michael Sheehan, Lisa Spiess, Stacey Bonvetti, Casey Sheehan, and Tommy Sheehan; grandchildren, Dean, Keira, M.J, Anna, Donny, Madison, Zachary, Ella, and Maya; sister, Kay Lennon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 10-11 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 A.M at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE 19808. Friends and family are invited to wear UNC Carolina blue attire. Burial will be held privately.
