James Michael "Mike" Jones, 89, of New Castle, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 8, 2026, with his daughter by his side.
Mike was born in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late Marguerite Elizabeth (Cameron) and James Edward Jones. He graduated from Salesianum School and went on to join his father in two family businesses, Jones Radio & TV and Industrial Electronics.
He met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Burns) Jones, and later began working at DuPont Experimental. Together, they made their home in Penn Acres, where they raised their family. Mike was a member of the Lucians, the Weston Senior Center, and the parishes of Our Lady of Fatima, Holy Spirit, and St. Mary of the Assumption. He shared a smile everywhere he went and brought joy to those around him.
Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Theresa Jones, as well as his siblings, Julia Collins and Lawrence Jones.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Leonard (Chris Custis) of Hockessin; his grandchildren, Delaney (Hunter Kramen), Michael (Lauren Thompson), and John "Jack"; his brother, George "Butch" Jones (Mary Altman) of Las Vegas, NV; his sister, Mary Beth Yeager (Jim) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; his sisters-in-law, Marie Tabasso of Smyrna and Charlotte Burns of Milton; Lynn's former spouse, Dennis of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was a devoted husband and father, but his greatest joy may have come from his role as "Pop-Pop." He loved sharing stories about his grandchildren and cherished time spent with his extended family. He enjoyed engaging with others and had a special way of making people smile. Mike especially loved talking about cars, computers, and his summers at Rehoboth Beach.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories, setting an example of warmth and compassion in every interaction.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church at the address above.
