James J.
Faragher, Iii
December 1, 1958 – June 5, 2026
James John Faragher, III, of Townsend DE, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on June 5th, 2026, at the age of 67. Jim was born in Wilmington, DE in 1958 to James and Joanne Faragher. He is survived by his son James John Faragher, Jr; brother Steven Faragher (Melissa); sisters Lisa Williams and Paula Turcol; niece Kaitlyn Faragher; nephews Austin Faragher, Tyler Williams, PJ, Joey and Zach Turcol; and fiancé Eileen Kosc.
He graduated from William Penn High School in 1976 where he enjoyed his time on the football and baseball teams. Jim was most proud of his time playing on the American Legion Stahl post #30 baseball team when they represented Delaware and competed in the 1976 World Series. After school, he enlisted in the Army where he served in Stuttgart, Germany from 1976 through 1982. Upon return, he began his 20-year passion with the Standardbred horse racing industry as a sulky trainer, owner and driver with multiple horses and trips to the winner's circle at Brandywine, Rosecroft, Harrington, Dover and OC Downs. Over the years he worked in multiple manufacturing (air products and chemicals) and transportation (rail) roles - but was most excited about his recent position as Plant Superintendent at Linde, in Delaware City, where he was able to work closely with his son this year.
Jim was the patriarch of the Faragher family. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, partner, friend and coach who dedicated his life to his family and the advancement of youth sports in the community. He served on multiple boards, ordered thousands of uniforms, and was a proud member of the Middletown HS Football blow-up helmet crew. Over the years, Jim coached and mentored hundreds of athletes from below the canal, MOT Little League, MOT Youth Football and multiple baseball travel teams. There was never a game where you didn't hear Jim interject his boisterous personality and sports advice.
If you knew Jim, you knew he had a personality larger than life and was always the center of attention. He had a gift for storytelling and was known for all of his catch phrases. He loved to make others laugh and enjoyed spending time with close friends, family, and their pets. He always boasted a degree in illumination, loved putting up holiday lights and decorations, and always had the best grass in Misty Vale. Jim was extremely generous with his donations, always supporting local sports organizations, and always fighting to pay the bill when dining out. Most recently, he loved his time with his fiancé Eileen and their trips to Mexico.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at the Mrytle Beach Pro-AM, Pebble Beach, Hawaii, as well as local tournaments and men's leagues at St. Annes and Garrison Lake. But nothing could top a round of golf with his son Jimmy or best friend Chris Birch. He was also a life-long bowler, played in local leagues, and was very proud of his Perfect Game of 300 at Bowlerama.
Last, but not least, Jim was a die-hard member of Raider Nation! "Just win, baby" reflects his ambitious approach to football and life. "Once a Raider - Always a Raider" honors his lifelong loyalty to his team and family. "Commitment to Excellence" highlights Jim's passion and high personal standards. And finally, "Win, Lose or Tie - Raider 'til I die" describes the strong will he had for the greatest and most courageous fight of his life. Jim will always be a Raider - and we will always honor him with the Silver and Black.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday June 12th, at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will resume on Saturday, June 13th starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Joseph B. Stahl Memorial Post Baseball Program in memory of Jim at 156 A N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720.
