Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Helen Socko of Wilmington, DE, on September 27, 2023. Helen was born in Pennsylvania to the late Bertha and Joseph Andruzzi. It was there that she met the love of her life, John Socko, in a chance meeting at a train station. From there, they moved to Delaware and were married for 66 happy years. They were blessed with a daughter, Terry, who was their pride and joy but always seemed to keep them on their toes.

Helen was a hairdresser by trade. She owned operated the Beauty Spot on Harrison Street and the Apollo Hair Design Studio on Kirkwood Highway. Both were a popular place to get your hair styled. She was also the manager of JCPenney's Hair Salon on Kirkwood highway for over 10 years. She took great pride in her work.

When she wasn't in her kitchen baking, you would catch her playing shuffleboard or hanging out at the Pulaski Legion. She was a proud member of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Theresa "Terry" and Paul Taylor of Vero Beach, Fl; her grandchildren, Danielle Cox Malinowski (Chris) and John J. Cox (Liz Bittle), her great-grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Courtney, and Riley. She is also survived by her brother Robert Andruzzi (Mary Ellen), sister Diane Shutak and sister-in-law Mary Andruzzi, wife of Joseph.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, John Socko, grandson, Elwood G. Cox, III "Little Woody", her son-in-law, Elwood G. Cox Jr, sister, Joanne Kupchinski and brothers Joseph (Sonny) Andruzzi and Paul (Butch) Andruzzi.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Helen's nephew, Brian Shutak. Brian was always there to help Aunt Helen whenever she needed anything.
