Helen M. Gass, age 91, of Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, where she happily spent the last years of her life.
Born in Newton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alice E. (House) and George M. Gass. She grew up on their dairy farm in Lafayette, NJ. Helen was very active in the Lafayette Federated Church, teaching Sunday School and later serving as a leader of the Pioneer Girls. She loved working with children and teenagers.
Helen enjoyed working at the USDA Farmers Home Administration in Trenton and Newark for 26 years, eventually becoming the Supervisory Clerk for Delaware's FHMA offices. She then spent ten years working in operations at Dean Witter Reynolds, now known as Morgan Stanley. Helen was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
After moving to Delaware, Helen became an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Pike Creek. Helen enjoyed spending time at the Newark Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Decker and Marian Allen. She is survived by and was like a second mother to her nephews Robert, William and Guy Decker, George and John Allen and her niece Ginny Lund Francis. She is also survived by her great-nieces and nephews: Emily, Sheila and Cecily Decker, Jessica, Robbin and Vicky Allen and Matt, Elizabeth, Christy and Eric Lund.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 4:30 PM at Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin, DE. It will be followed by a funeral service at 4:30 at Cokesbury Village. Her burial will be held for family at the North Hardyston Cemetery, Hamburg, New Jersey on April 18 at 11:00 AM. Helen Gass's family members in the area are welcome to attend.
