Age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by family.Born in Lancaster, PA, Harris was the son of the late Amos S. and Edna (Chambers) Aungst. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown College. He worked as a chemist for Curtis Paper Mill for many years and retired from Delmarva Power & Light in 1995. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, and the Mason Jerusalem Lodge #506. He enjoyed woodworking, taking trips with family, volunteering as a clown at the Christiana Hospital, and working with various youth groups.His wife, Ruth (Koons) Aungst, predeceased him in 2006. Harris will be dearly missed by his daughter Amy Rinehart and her husband Steve of Wilmington; his son, Drew Aungst of Newark; and his beloved grandson, Hunter Rinehart.Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28th at 6 PM at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark where friends are invited to visitation after 7 PM. Interment will be private.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Annual Campaign for Children at the YMCA.
