Obituary

Our dad, Guy J. Astolfi, peacefully transitioned to his new life with his daughter by his side on Father's Day, June 18, 2023, nine days before his 99th birthday. He was born in his parents' bedroom on June 27, 1924 in New Castle.

Guy is survived by his son, Stephen Astolfi, of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; his daughter, Suzanne Astolfi and her husband Steve Davis, of Brunswick, Maine; his two grandchildren whom he adored and cherished, Gaetan Maria Davis of Portland, Maine, and Carson Julian Davis and his wife, Kholi Mendes-Pepani of South Portland, Maine; and his youngest sister, Mary Stipo of Wilmington. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Marie Pellicone Astolfi, whom he took such loving care of in her final years; parents Gaetano Astolfi and Caroline Marcozzi Astolfi; siblings Rose Peden, Alphonse Astolfi, and Jill Barbieri; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Guy lived a full and satisfying life. His life-long quest for knowledge was instilled in him by the nuns at St. Peter's School where he went from first through twelfth grade. Three days after his 18th birthday he was drafted into WWII, where he was assigned as a radio operator in the Army Air Corps on a C-47, flying combat missions over China, Burma and India. On his return to the states, he studied in Philadelphia receiving his federal radio license which he parlayed into a successful telecommunications career, first helping to launch WAMS radio, followed by the Diamond State Telephone Company, before retiring from the Bell of Pennsylvania. Guy was an active member in the St. Anthony Holy Name Society and a member of St. John the Beloved parish where he served as an usher.

Guy had many passions in life, probably foremost being playing golf, with playing bridge a close second. There seemed to be nothing he couldn't do or figure out, whether it was caning chairs, rug hooking, building grandfather clocks, cooking, putting together 3-D puzzles at 95… His fascination with and storytelling of WWII and anything related to astronomy will live on for everyone who has ever known him.

Funeral services will be held at St. John the Beloved, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE on Wednesday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
