Obituary

Grace "Gracie" Monaco passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 5, 2025. Born on January 1,1934 in Wilmington DE, she resided there all her life, attending high school at Ursuline Academy. After graduating, she attended Misericordia College in Dallas, PA where she double majored in chemistry and biology before leaving to take care of her ailing father.

Grace worked at Sun Oil Company, Sears and Roebuck and Chase Manhattan Bank before retiring. However her primary career was raising her children and any other children who needed raising, no matter how old.

Grace was a member of various organizations at Saint John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church, including Action, a Catholic Youth Organization, which she founded. Grace was the first woman to receive the Saint George`s award, given to adults in the Catholic Church for the development of youth activities. She was always generous with her time and resources, volunteering in organizations throughout her life including Girl and Boy Scouts and Read Aloud Delaware. Grace was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved tending to her other children: the plants in her garden.

Grace was predeceased by her father Salvatore (Sam) and her mother Sebastiana, as well as two sisters Connie Fullerton and Neddie Belk and two brothers Ben Campagna and Sam Campagna. She is also predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Frank, as well as her adopted granddaughter Wendy Darnell. Grace is survived by four children, Frank Monaco Jr. (Terri), Lucia Cox (David), Tony Monaco (Zoia), Mary Hanlon, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd. on October 15, 2025 at 11:30 am, where friends and family may call after 10:30. A private burial will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.
