Age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.Born in Abruzzi, Italy, Giuseppe was the son of the late Nicola and Maria Fontana. In 1950, he immigrated to Venezuela and lived there until 1964. From there he moved to Philadelphia where he lived until 1979 then he moved to Wilmington, his home ever since. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Union Local 542 which he was a member for 50 years. His hobbies included gardening and making homemade wine, tomato sauce and sausage. In his earlier years, he was an avid hunter and had many adventures in Venezuela. He enjoyed watching boxing and soccer matches and bowled for many years in various leagues in Philadelphia and Delaware. He volunteered at St. Anthony in the Hills with Father Roberto Balducelli. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.In addition to his parents, Giuseppe was predeceased by his brothers, Gelso, Mario, Dario and Dionigio and his sister, Rosina. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Rosalia Fontana; his daughters, Gelsina Collier, Josefina Fontana, Marisa Livaditis (husband John); his sons, Tony Fontana (wife Mary) and Nick Fontana (wife Beth); his sister, Aldina Volpe: 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.Friends and family are invited to visitation on Saturday, February 27th at 9 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 10 AM.
