Gerald Stewart Szabo "Gerry", 73 of Felton passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Kent General Hospital. Gerry was born in Miami, FL, the son of the late Elsie and Joseph Szabo. He graduated from the University of Delaware and received his Masters from LaSalle University. Gerry served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He worked as a teacher/professor and coach for over 50 years at many different high schools and colleges. These include (but in no specific order): Wilmington College, Ferris Reformatory School, Cabrini College, Padua Academy, Goldey Beacom College, John Dickinson High School, Delaware Technical Community College, Glenville State College, Salem University, Wesley College, Hodgson Vo-Tech, Seaford High School, and Saint Thomas More Academy. He was also the founder of the Champion Volleyball Club that ran for over 20 successful years, and when he was not coaching, he was inventing products that helped players improve their performance (Power Swing & Pass It). Gerry is survived by his wife, Daphne Szabo; his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Jesse Darby of Prospect, OH; his son, Ethan Szabo of Lewes, DE and his grandson, Jameson. He was coaching to the very end. Passing on his wisdom to one of his most favorite players, his grandson. Although his life ended before his family was ready, the time they had with him was filled with wonderful memories. They are going to miss his never-ending love and support. There will be a private service held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. The celebration will include a game in his memory. His family would love everyone to come out and share some of their stories with them. Coaching was Gerry's life and they would love for his legacy to continue.
